Investment Management

At Goodman Financial, we take a personalized approach to managing your investment portfolio. We listen carefully to understand your unique goals, risk tolerance, time horizon, and other circumstances to develop a tailored investment strategy that meets your needs.

This process leads to a formal asset allocation recommendation that aligns with your goals. After reviewing tax considerations, our internal Investment Committee implements a diversified strategy, primarily investing in individual stocks and bonds. This approach helps minimize the layering of fees often associated with bundled investment options like mutual funds and exchange-traded funds.

Investment Philosophy

We believe in managing risk through rigorous security selection analysis and diversification, while reducing portfolio costs by primarily investing in individual stocks and bonds. Additional attention to detail is focused on managing the buying and selling of securities in a tax-efficient manner.

Our Investment Process

Our investment process begins with you. We take the time to discuss your goals and concerns to develop a tailored portfolio recommendation. Once the strategy is set, we implement it and ensure you are set up with account and reporting access. Our ongoing management includes monitoring the underlying investments for new risks and opportunities and making adjustments to the portfolio.

Ongoing Monitoring

Equity Investing

Our equity investments primarily consist of a diversified mix of actively managed individual stocks. Our selection process focuses on identifying stocks that are intended to be held for the long term, with an emphasis on capital appreciation.

Risk is managed through diversification across the individual stocks chosen for investment. We select both growth and value stocks across various market capitalizations, sectors, and industries.

The selection of underlying stocks is overseen by our Investment Committee, led by our Chief Investment Officer. The committee analyzes each stock with consideration to both external economic factors and the company’s strong overall financial position.

Investment Management - Fixed Income Investing

Fixed Income Investing

Our fixed income investment strategy focuses on selecting a diversified group of individual bonds for each client, with the goal of generating income while adding stability to your portfolio.

We primarily invest in investment-grade corporate bonds, diversifying across issuers, sectors, and industries to help protect your wealth. To manage interest rate risk and meet your individual needs, we ladder the maturity dates of the bonds. Our strategy is designed to hold these bonds until maturity, reinvesting in new bonds annually to extend the ladder.

We continuously monitor and evaluate the financial health of the companies whose debt we have purchased to ensure we are confident in their ability to meet repayment obligations. Additionally, based on your tax bracket and prevailing interest rates, we assess whether municipal bonds in taxable accounts are a favorable option compared to the after-tax returns of corporate bonds.
